DownloadCARMARTHEN, WALES - JUNE 09: A general view of the Sir Thomas Picton obelisk on Picton Terrace on June 9, 2020 in Carmarthen, Wales. Campaigns have been launched in Cardiff and Carmarthen to remove memorials to the Napoleonic war hero Sir Thomas Picton, who was infamous for his treatment of slaves in the Caribbean. On the weekend the statue of former Prime Minister Winston Churchill was spray-painted with the words "was a racist" amid anti-racism protests over the weekend and in Bristol, protesters toppled a statue of Edward Colston, a 17th-century slave-trader, and tossed it into the harbour.
